This Fourth of July, the United States marks 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, and Florida’s Adventure Coast plans to celebrate in style.
Across Hernando County — from Brooksville and Spring Hill to Weeki Wachee and Hernando Beach — residents are lining up fireworks, live music, boat parades and family fun to honor the milestone. It’s a place where that history still feels close, in local museums, on the courthouse steps and in small-town traditions.
The centerpiece is Hernando County’s Salute to America 250, a community celebration set for July 4 at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation in Brooksville. The park-like setting will feature live entertainment on multiple stages, family activities, food trucks and vendors, capped by a grand finale drone and fireworks show.
The festivities begin even earlier. On June 27, the Red, White & The Blues Brothers Community Block Party runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stage West Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The free outdoor party includes vendors, food trucks, live music, giveaways, community karaoke and a singing of the national anthem. That evening, “The Jake and Elwood Blues Revue” performs a full Blues Brothers tribute inside; doors open at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show, with admission $40.
Also on July 4, Lead Foot City hosts the Rev, White and Brew Drift Fest, combining drag racing, drifting, show cars, food trucks, vendors, live music and fireworks.
In Hernando Beach, the Hernando Beach Yacht Club hosts the Heroes Boat Parade, honoring military service and community pride along the waterways. Hernando County Administrator Jeff Rogers, a Navy submarine veteran, will serve as grand marshal. The event opens at noon, with the decorated-boat parade at 1 p.m., and includes live music, Quilts of Honor presentations, a silent auction, a raffle and family activities. The Weeki Wachee Base of United States Submarine Veterans Inc. will display a scale-model submarine, offering a look at the history, technology and service of the Silent Service, the nickname for the Navy’s submarine force. The club is at 4163 Shoal Line Blvd.
